Artist Bio
Dane Cory was born in Philadelphia, PA and has lived all over the country. He currently has resided in Tacoma, WA since 2023. With a BA in psychology and multiple mental health diagnoses, Dane was on the path to becoming a therapist but changed his trajectory to help and inspire people through his geometric abstract paintings. With no formal education in artwork, he has focused on abstract artwork since 2014, after many years of mostly comic and cartoon-based artwork. With only a couple shows under his belt, he is finally exposing his work to the Seattle area after many years of honing his craft.
Artist Statement
I live with multiple mental health diagnoses, and I like to take the symptoms of these ailments and use them to create lines, shapes and colors to form geometric and abstract arrangements. I aim to present visuals that do not make mental illness seem pathological on paper. I form paintings that transform what I suffer from into an explosion of color and beauty. I am purposeful with pleasing aesthetics, satisfying colors and smooth as marble finish to my paint that makes you want to run your hand across them like a kid at a toy store or a touch everything science museum. I want my abstract paintings to look like they were printed from giant inkjet printers with pigment inks. Perfection. Smoothness. Control. Sharpness. Something that brings warmth to your living room. I am not ashamed to want my art to match your couch. This is purposeful. I want mental health to be approachable just as much as I want my art to be. Not only approachable, but a welcome addition to any space that soaks up the geometry of the room as well as all its colors.
